Exciting News: Facility Expansion Coming Soon

The Itasca Park District is excited to announce a planned 10,000 sq ft expansion on the west side of the Itasca Community Recreation & Fitness Center. 

Key details:

  • 10,000 sq ft new addition to the West
  • Full conversion of the current gymnastics space for expanded IGC use
  • Additional multipurpose gym space for programs

This transformative project is currently out to bid, with construction slated to kick off right after ItascaFest in July! 

That means big improvements are on the horizon to better serve our community’s recreational needs.

 Itasca Park District Announces 10,000 Sq. Ft. Expansion to Community Recreation & Fitness Center

The Itasca Park District is proud to announce a significant investment in the future of community recreation with a planned 10,000-square-foot expansion on the west side of the Itasca Community Recreation & Fitness Center.

This expansion is designed to meet the growing needs of residents by enhancing access to recreational programming. The centerpiece of the project is a new 6,200-square-foot addition that will house an upgraded and fully dedicated gymnastics, cheer, and tumbling facility under the expanding Itasca Gymnastics & Cheer (IGC) program. The space will feature accessible restrooms and flexible programming rooms to better serve a wide variety of users.

In addition to new construction, existing areas within the facility will be repurposed to support multi-sports offerings including basketball, volleyball, baseball and pickleball as well as provide additional space for camps, before-and-after school care and other programming. These improvements will allow the Park District to accommodate increasing demand while continuing to provide welcoming and inclusive services for all.

“Our programs are bursting at the seams, and this expansion couldn’t come at a better time,” said Maryfran Leno, Executive Director of the Itasca Park District. “We want to make sure that every child, every family, and every resident has the space and opportunity to grow, play, and connect in a facility that meets the needs of our thriving community.”

With an approved project budget of $5.5 million, the expansion will be funded through a combination of municipal bonds and current fund balances. Most importantly, the project will not result in any tax increases for residents. Bids were officially approved by the Itasca Park District Board of Commissioners on May 19, with construction scheduled to begin immediately following ItascaFest on July 14.
